My Messy Mess Makers!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Another visit to the doctor for me to check on Koen. The past couple times Deeder has come along with me but this time he told me that he wanted to stay home with Daddy and Carly to read library books. When I got home I could tell that he’d been busy studying those books! I certainly did have a talk with him about taking care of library books, he’s already heard it all but was just so excited to have fresh reads that I guess it was easy to forget!

Carly of course loves climbing and sometimes finding her on great is a bit scary. She’s so curious–totally loves making herself tall and trying to reach things that she shouldn’t. She’s 17 months old now and could be meeting her new brother soon!

Koen is now 36 weeks and 4 days along–he could come any day now.
Me just before I left this morning:
Feeling large and ready for the next stage…meeting the baby.
He’s such an active little guy and I’m just so looking forward to meeting him.

I often get asked if my kids know that they’ll have a baby brother coming soon. Deeder certainly does, in fact he’s always talking about the baby…”You full, Mommy? Baby Koen’s full too.” or, “Shhh, Cary, Baby Koen sleeping!”
Carly on the other hand just seems to assume that her mommy is very fat and tired. She’ll no doubt be surprised to see a new little person hanging out at our house each and every day. Right now I think she’s too little to understand any of that, my hope is that she will accept and adore him.

Deeder’s Music Band

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Deeder picked out a recorder at Target for himself and a little purse for Carly after our trip this morning to the doctor.
Carly isn’t very impressed with the handbag (she no doubt would have prefered to receive a tool box) but Deeder is head over heels for his new, “music band.”
Carly threw the bag to the floor a few times then discovered that it has batteries and can play music, at this point she set in to trying to figure out how to dissect the thing.

Little Sissy isn’t much of a girlie-girl yet, maybe she never really will be.

Coming as soon as YouTube allows, a video of Deeder playing his recorder. :)

The Important Things

There’s so much to think about as a preschooler. For this kid, it’s just a thrill to be talking, that’s how I feel anyway…I can *finally* hear cohesive phrases coming from him. I guess for Deeder it’s the opposite–Mommy is finally understanding, to him I imagine his attempts at communication have always made sense, it’s me who has been the slow learner!

And I seriously think Deeder’s future occupation will be something that involves him being in front of a camera. He asks on a regular basis to be, “videoed” first thing when he wakes up. Then, as you can see, he is in a big hurry to see how the clip turned out.

Tubby Video for GrammaMomma

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

After viewing this video that I took of him in the bath a couple nights ago Deeder laughed and said, “I funny boy, Mommy! It’s for Gamma.” Really I couldn’t tell you that I know why he wants this to be for my mom, nevertheless, here it is for GrammaMomma to watch.
We sure are looking forward to your arriving home again, Mom! I miss seeing you so regularly and I know that the kids and Darren (as well as Rebecca, Lydia and Seth) do too.

Perhaps Deeder wants you to see this because he knows you’re proud of him for doing new things and he rates soaping himself up as an especially cool accomplishment!

Cousin Claire Visits

My sister and her husband along with their baby daughter came over after church for lunch and hang out a bit and of course I got the camera out for some memory capturing. Auntie Kayla, Auntie Cadet, Auntie Lyd (who turns 16 tomorrow!!), and Uncle Seth came over as well so we had a house full. :)
It was so nice to have the house full of conversation and laughter, and of course the table piled with yummy things to eat…all in all, an enjoyable afternoon.

I thought I’d put a couple pictures of the kids up for you to see and then on facebook I’ll have a few more.

Deeder clearly adores his little cousin. I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to have a baby of his own here soon and just be a superb big brother. Carly was certainly interested in touching Claire, reaching for her and wanting to get as close as possible, but she isn’t quite old enough to understand babies or know to be careful.
