More like reading

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Deeder’s been fever-ish the last couple of days, we’re thinking he’s caught whatever bug it is that Aunties have been fighting off. Hopefully he too will shake it off soon, without antibiotics maybe?

GrammaMomma took us out to Costco to help her do a little pre-Thanksgiving feast grocery shopping, that was nice. Both Carly and Deeder love getting out and of course it’s a great thing for me too, so thank you Mom for bring us with. :)

As you might notice, person who is reading this, I didn’t think of a great blog post today–it’s been more of a foggy brain time lately. All I’ve been up to is living in that feeling of being busy without seeing much happening.

Soon that’ll move to another level with the prospect of getting into a rental and going through unpacking and reorganizing.

I was just reading the Confessions of a CF Husband as I do every night and admiring their advances in home renovating. I’ll get any needed fix for smashing and repainting taken care of by watching Nate’s construction efforts as it will be years before I own a home to do that on.

Oh well.

Tomorrow’s Turkey Day the day to be thankful and consider all the blessings that God has brought along in this whole life journey business.

High Chair Substitute

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Why is my son sitting on the counter?

You might easily assume I had just been the victum of the typical two year old standard fussing and whining until mom gives into unreasonable things work over and given in. If this be the case, a little boy had just won a battle of wills over his mother. He will soon, if not already has, proceed to mess with things intentionally stored out of his natural reach.

Wouldn’t it be better to stick him in a high chair?

Deeder last March.
(note: yes, lack of bib equals stain spray situation)

Highchairs contain mess, as you see here with Deeder total souping up his shirt and tray but everything else stays clean and he doesn’t try to leave while eating.

The highchair is in storage and we’ve thought about digging it out and reintroducing it, but would that be worth it’s effort?

Deeder kneels on the table’s bench during family dinners and sits on the counter when he and I eat our breakfast and lunch. It works for us–looks silly perhaps, but I don’t mind.

Obviously I’m over annalizing, while I’m already at it, let me take this a step further and ask if you think I’m fitting under the Push Over Parent category or Just Being Flexable.

Right now I feel at the point where even the smallest little details of the interactions between Deeder and I are potential opportunities for me to take the upper hand and teach a lesson of guidance.

Here are my two little cuddly puddly cuteness babies:
Because no post is truly complete without getting both of them together…

And that’s all that I have for you on this Monday night.

BTW: Deeder’s eating humus on crackers, with a side of apple sause and a cup of milk (not coffee as it may appear) in the top pic.

First Play Date at Our Place

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Today I was thinking of writing a Thursday’s 13 on Thirteen Things We’re Looking for in a Home. That’d be a timely post as we’re considering buying a house within the next few months, Spring time certainly may be a reasonable time to do that.

Instead though I decided that it’d be more fun to tell you about our very first official play date at my parents house. :)

One of my friends from church came over with her two little guys–
The oldest is going to be 3 in February and the youngest is around Carly’s age, a month older I think.

Diederick had enjoyed showing his buddy around the house. Our friends have come over before, twice already this week but this was the first time that they’ve been over without a crowd of other people.
The boys did share, but did require a few reminders.

I learned a lot from this play date, about two-year-old behavior management. It’s awesome to have another mom’s suggestions on these things. Deeder and I really are working hard on becoming cooperative Mom and Tot team, it takes effort to have all that ironed out in an effiicent way.

We had lunch together after nearly 2 1/2 hour play time. Then our friends headed home for naps. My Deeder is napping now too, Carly however got her down time in before they arrived and was pretty low key during the visit.

The kiddos woke up at 6:40 rather than their usual 7:30 to 8-ish morning rising today because we were thinking of going into town with Darren this morning to look at a house to rent–I’m glad in retrospect that that didn’t work, it would have been too crazy.

Anyway, that’s my story and your Thursday reading on Oraeley. :)

Sorry for the lack of pictures, these are up from the archives. The first set are from March and the second are June ’08. Anyone want to tell me why it feels like I just posted these snaps yesterday?

The reposting of them is inspired by my sudden sweaping feeling of nostalgia. I miss my old play date friends as much as I’m thankful for the new ones that are here.
Nostalgia is defined as a feeling of wishing to return to a former time–that’s not quite it, it’s more of a a remembering fondly and appriciating.

Yep. Anyway. Diaper change time, stinky Carly!
