Honey Moon Traveling Adventures

Friday, September 30th, 2005

On Tuesday (Sept. 15) we spent the day packing our stuff into a UHaul trailer which we set up to rent for ten days. That night we slept on the floor in my empty room. Sleeping in that room rid of anything that said “Laura” helped me realize that I wasn’t going to be living here anymore.

We left between 5:30 and 6 in the morning. Somehow there wasn’t anything incredibly strange about getting in the truck knowing that I wasn’t coming back to stay. That day we drove about 10 hours and stopped in Montana somewhere to spend the night. The hotel room smelled like sewage. I think that Darren, Heidi and I left around 9am.

Montana lasts forever. We drove all day. Maybe not, but it felt like all day. Hours later we reached Darren’s sister’s place. Thanks, Roxanne, for your great hospitality! Thanks too for taking us to the drive in. I’ve never been to a drive in movie so that was fun for me despite the very scariness of the movie! After a fun trip in Billings we hit the road again.

Next stop: Jamestown North Dakota. (more…)

Do I Know You?

Friday, September 30th, 2005

Ask us what we’ve been doing lately and Darren will say, “Nothing.” I’d say that we’re learning about each other. We’re developing family rules and learning about our differences. This isn’t happening intentionally…it’s happening sort of spontaneously. (more…)

Lazy

I can’t believe that I’m writing to say that I’ll write soon, but I am! Heh. Where has the faithful blogger in me gone? In truth, I’ve only left the house four times since we moved here. That considered, I have no real reason to have left off writing.

Darren has now connected his laptop computer to the internet thus allowing both of us to be online. We met on the internet and are still both chronic users. (more…)

Quick Update

Saturday, September 24th, 2005

Today we got the marriage licence in the mail! Ok, I’m not sure if it came today. Actually, it didn’t. It came before we came.

Darren and I arrived at his place Wednesday around 3pm. We were greeted by a huge pile of mail covering his table. He’s gone through it all. Now we’re looking forward to getting the key for his mail box back so that we can look for letters from my fam!

Yesterday we spent $86.24 at Aldi Foods. We also spent quite a bit at WalMart. Aldi for food and Walmart for cleaning things.

Today we organized the kitchen. It actually takes quite a bit of effort to find a place for food, dishes, pots and pans and all that other great kitchen stuff.

When we took everything out of the UHaul our stuff just got dumped in the living room. Gradually it’s finding an unofficial place. Tomorrow we’ll homefully we’ll tackle the “guest bedroom”. It’s going to have everything from my old room in it. I’ll love to get that all put together.

Moving Day

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

Darren and I were married on Saturday and left on Wednesday. It took five hours total to box up all of our things, load up the UHaul and completely rid my room of all Laura-ness.

Yep, that’s right. My much loved room is now stripped of carpet, furniture, and wall paper. Pretty amazing when you think about it. Sort of sad too.

For all I know, the room is now full of my dad’s things. I imagine it now containing his computer, drafting table and plotter. He’ll be in there with clients soon. It’s his new office.

Oh well. It’s good to use the space. Now I’m looking forward to meeting my new house and putting my furniture in it.

The travelling has been ok. Nothing too eventful. Darren says that we’ll be in New York by next Friday. Currently we’re visiting his family in ND.
