productive day off

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

This morning I woke up at 5:30 thinking that it wasn’t Darren’s day off. It’s my job to make Darren a cup of coffee every morning at 5:30 on his work days. Usually I’m not really quite conscience and easily drop back into bed for a couple more hours before beginning my day. But not today! I couldn’t get back to sleep. I cleaned up the kitchen, straightened up our bedroom, showered and took doggie out. Darren woke up at about 7:30, had his coffee and some breakfast. When I asked him what he planned for the day he said, “Oh I was hoping that I could just do nothin.”

Thankfully that wasn’t how it went. :P We started with deciding what to make for Sunday’s church meal. So off Darren went to buy some pork and buns from Price Chopper. While he was out doing that I wrote my literature review for my online class. Next we ate lunch and packed up some things from the apartment to move to our UHaul storage unit.

We were done at the storage unit about 4pm. I was so happy that Darren said that we could get my dresser out of storage! I know it’s sort of weird to be so attached to a piece of furniture, but I do love my dresser!! :D Once that was in the apartment I got dinner going. Guess what I did…

Well, I was planning on making Taco Salad. Yesterday when I went shopping I remembered to pick up everything that I wanted to go on it. Instead of picking up lettuce I accidentally grabbed cabbage!! How great is that!! My mom will laugh like crazy when I tell her about it. I felt pretty silly when I realized. Anyway, I just put out tortillas and put all the meat and fixings in burritos. Darren just thought it was funny. I guess I’ll use the cabbage for coleslaw sometime. :D

It’s about 9pm now. Darren’s on the phone with his uncle in North Dakota who really loves to talk for a very long time. :P I’m plum tuckered out and think that I’ll be going to bed soon. Diederick has been a busy boy kicking me all day! It’s pretty funny that in the ultrasound pictures we got such a clear shot of his little foot, just proof that he loves using those feet. Boy howdy, I can’t wait to meet my little boy.

Baby Names

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

After spending a day and a half telling people that we’re planning to name the baby Dylan we decided that our chosen name wasn’t quite right. So I returned again to the baby name book.

Nearly everything was either too common, or just completely silly. Then we came to Diederick. I was hoping for something simple, not too common and not too weird. Diederick isn’t the simplest name on earth, nor is it short. But somehow it seems just right! We’ll see if I’m still saying that in twelve to thirteen weeks when he’s due. Anyway, thought I’d let ya’ll know about the change.

Our baby is currently named Diederick Dale Harr

It’s a Low German name meaning gifted ruler, a variant of Theodoric.

We had our o.b appointment today. I officially measure 29 weeks and 6 days. We had an ultra sound and found out the baby’s gender and his weight. Diederick Dale weighs 2 lbs and 14 oz.

When I have access to a scanner I’ll post Diederick’s ultrasound pictures!! :D :D

Today one year ago Darren asked me to marry him.

I’m just amazed by how much has changed in one year.

What’ll our family look like next year? Where will we be living then?

The first person to stay at the Crosby House since its re-opening left this afternoon. I hope she enjoyed her stay! Our landlady’s been gone most of the day so I haven’t gotten to ask her yet how it went. When I talked to her yesterday morning she said that I’m welcome to go pull out weeds in the gardens anytime I like. :P Perhaps I’ll do that sometime! I guess if I pull a few dandelions out of the garden mounds I suppose I can fairly say that I lent to some out the outdoor beauty and pleasantness, eh?
