Breastfeeding

Sunday evening we stopped to visit Duff and Amy on our way back to Vermont. In the couple hours we talked about all kinds of good stuff. I found the conversation on breast feeding totally humorous!!

Duff, Amy and Darren find breast feeding to be one of those things that’s on the top of the do-not-do-in-public list. Our family rule, as of Sunday night, is breastfeeding outside of the house is not ok unless I wear a blanket over myself so that, “nothing shows.” That’s fair enough. The other option is using formula when out in public which I’m not so interested in. For how strongly Darren feels about public feeding I’m surprised that we’ve never talked about this. I suppose this whole baby thing will be a process of learning about each other’s ideas. I can hardly wait until the baby is here!

Some mothers seem to be to be more talented at breastfeeding discreetly than others. I, for one, avoid feeding Amos in public. Since he’s Mr. Distracto Man it’s quite hard to nurse him modestly when he’s got to stop eating every ten seconds to see if something interesting is happening. Anyhow I don’t have a problem with people nursing in public so long as they are either talented or blanketed. If there is a way to avoid formula, then I’d do so. It’s way better for your baby, hands down.

I suppose the best thing to do is stay out of public breastfeeding until the talented bit develops. You’re right about real Mama milk being better for Baby than formula.
Btw, It’s so sad that I wont be able to see you, Ginny, and Amos this next Lord’s day when you’re in NY! I know you’ll have a super duper time visiting with everyone!!!
