If he’s still vomiting

Deeder woke up at 8am this morning, that’s at least an hour later than usual, after a night of constant whimpering and crying. His face was flushed and he had dark circles under his eyes. He ate yogurt with rolled oats for breakfast, which I took as a sign that he was feeling on the mend…enjoying a favorite. I headed off about 8:40, leaving him in the trusty hands of Daddy.

I got back at 12:10 to be greeted by a smiling white faced little boy who smelled deeply of that yucky acidic throwupness. Darren told me that Diederick stood by the door waiting for me for a few minutes then went and laid himself down in the corner of the bedroom and slept for twenty minutes. He woke again and played then did the same thing! He also threw up four times while in Daddy’s care. I asked Darren what he’d given Deeder and he said that Deeder hadn’t had anything, he wouldn’t even take a drink from his cup. Poor kid, puking on an empty tummy–no wonder the smell was so acidic. I hope I’m not being too disgusting.
For lunch Deeder had two or three swallows of milk from his tippy cup, minutes after being taken out of his chair he gushed it back up on me, at least twice the liquid he could have had in his stomach, weird how that works. I comforted him and took him upstairs for a clothes change and nap.
By habit I sat down in my chair to nurse him, he threw up all over me again, thankfully I caught most of the stuff with the blanket I had him in!
Darren came out of the shower just in time to see me mopping the mess off my jeans. He said, “That’s it! We’re calling that pediatrician and asking her what she did to our kid!” I found the number and he dialed. The nurse was busy and said she’d call me back.
She called me back in five minutes and told me that I shouldn’t give him anything to eat for one to two hours after he throws up. He can only eat bland foods and drink water or milk, no juices. She said this had nothing to do with the flu shot–”Kids just vomit sometimes.” She told me that if he gets a really dry mouth or starts crying tearlessly then I should be worried about him being dehydrated.
Darren missed his before shift meeting so that he could go pick up some Tylenol and Pedialyte for baby boy…we gave him some Pedialyte and put him to bed, he protested but was too weak to lift himself up. Soon his eyes closed, despite his obviously trying to hold them open. My poor little trooper man. Wah! Would this be happening if he hadn’t had the shot?

Soon after Darren left the phone rang again. It was the nurse from Deeder’s pediatrician’s office calling again. She told me that if he was still vomiting tomorrow then the doctor wanted me to bring him in. I wonder what they’d say.

For now we’re just staying warm and hopefully the day will get better.

I’m currently trying to rid the TV room of barf smell. The washer just finished it’s cycle, I’m going to go see how it did. Maybe by the end of naptime the room will be back to normal :) Boy I sure don’t want to catch the flu…I feel so helpless when I have it. More importantly though, my poor baby needs to get well!

Deeder didn’t want to be set down, so you get self portrait style pics today.

I’m so sad for him! It’s awfully suspicious that he had the shot and now he’s sick! :( Hope he’s better soon! Looking forward to an update.

Poor little guy! And poor you, too. That’s lots of cleaning up to do. I hope you stay well. However, I have my suspicions that this IS a reaction to the vaccinations, not stomach flu. Oh, well, just document it, and ask the doctor if vomiting and extreme tiredness are listed as possible reactions to the vaccination.

[...] half, or that’s how it seemed to me…probably because I was anxious about Deeder and his mystery illness. The bus driver needed to fuel up the bus (he forgot to that morning!) so everyone had to get off. [...]

All that’s gone down the hatch for him since I wrote this post has been dry cheerios, pedialyte, and water. I tried giving him pasta left over from my dinner but he would have none of it, same with the oatmeal I offered. The good news is that he hasn’t thrown up for about five hours now.
    You’re funny, Steph!

It wasn’t the shot my foot! I’m here to tell you with no uncertainty that it absolutely WAS the shot…at least in my opinion. Same EXACT thing happened to Tater with his first flu shot, when he was SIX MONTHS old. Imagine a six-month-old heaving and vomiting that yellow, acidic nastiness…it was horrible. I cried the entire day!

They told me it wasn’t the shot too but I refused to believe it. It HAD to be the shot, I am convinced. So convinced in fact that Tater hasn’t had a flu shot since that first one. Even though recently I’ve been reading that this type of reaction typically only occurs in those who have never had the flu and if its their first time having the vaccination. But the hubby proved me wrong by recieving his flu shot last week (he gets one every year!) and he’s been sick ever since. Not pukey sick but can’t breathe, can’t smell, can’t eat, sore throat kinda sick.

Nope, no more flu vaccinations for Tater. I’ll never understand who in the world came up with the idea of protecting children from diseases by jabbing them with disease-infested needles anyways. :)

Hope Deeder feels better soon, and that you and Darren don’t catch it. Keep us posted – pun intended. ;)

That sounds fishy to me. Kids don’t just throw up like that. Yes some kids do every once in a while, but not like that. Not like that at all. I’d think he’s got a tummy bug. Yes the flu shot can do that.

My sis in law got her son the flu shot and since then he’s had issues with eggs, there’s egg in it!!! Anyway, don’t wanna make you feel bad about getting it, you definitely have your sons best interests in mind.

Poor little guy! And poor mommy. I’ve dealt with a pukey toddler and it’s seriously not fun at all. Hope he’s feeling better soon.

And I’m also gonna say it was most likely the vaccine that made him sick. We are a non-vaxing family, and are especially against the flu shot, and reactions like this are a big part of the reason why! I doubt your doctor will ever admit that the shot caused his illness but I’d bet money that it did. Definitely be very cautious of giving it to him again in the future!

Also, thanks for Blogrolling me! I will be back. :)
