Deeder meets Luca

There’s a big shaggy dog that’s yard meets up with the yard behind our house. The divider is a row of trees and one of those temparary plastic fences that people put up to control snow drifts. Deeder stands about two feet away from the fence with his hand out as if for the dog to sniff. He says, “Oggie, ruff ruff.” and sometimes sticks his tongue out and makes a panting immitation.
It’s totally adorable.

Thursday afternoon he was doing this again, probably for the dozenth time. The owner came out and said, “Well hi there! What’s your name, little guy?” Deeder was so busy looking at the doggie that the sound of the lady’s voice startled him and he ran back to me. I told him that he hadn’t done anything wrong and he ventured back to the fence. He pointed to the dog, looked up at the lady and said, “Oggie?” as if to ask if he was indeed right about the animal’s species.

Turns out that the big mass of white shaggy-ness is named Luca. She’s 3 years old and was “adopted” by Carol and her husband last year from the humane society. Luca’s hobbies include digging, jumping up on people, licking, and barking. Deeder is in love.

And I have met a neighbor!
Turns out Carol works at the same place that Darren does. How cool is that?
She offered to watch Deeder when Carly’s born, just in case Darren’s friend Jen isn’t available when I need to go to the hospital. Pretty cool to have a next door neighbor who could do that. I doubt that Jen would be unavailable, but it’s certainly good to have a back up plan.

Anyway, this was my first time ever meeting a neighbor. Pretty cool. Makes you feel like you belong!

Carol said that Deeder can come over to see Luca any time.

Yaaay! neighbors – they come in handy when you need a 1/4 cup of flour – or something :) I just remember when I was growing up that the neighbors always called to ask for Miscelaneous cooking ingredients :)

We spent about 45 minutes over there today. Deeder LOVES Luca! He sits by her and pets her head and back quietly talking to her in his little baby babble. She looks at him with her big brown doggie eyes and listens as if she understands.
